Zeke: I like to welcome everyone to another episode of the Let’s Gather Podcast.I’m your host Zeke. In this episode, you’re listening to Episode 8.2 Life Experiences and sports. You can listen to the beginning of the episode in Episode 8.1. A Real Life Sports Movie. I like to give a content warning for any strong language used in this episode. And hope you have a nice day and enjoy the show.

Zeke: Yeah my mom was more like she’s more protective, like calls me more like she wants to help more. I always tell her that. Let me figure it out first. Because she not always gonna be there.

Matt: And I’m sure that’s one of my things. My parents were like, Alright, I’m not gonna be here for the rest of your life. So, So pretend I’m not here right now or something like that’s what they usually said. It’s true because like so yeah, your parents are always protective. My parents are protective to like, they’re always love you unconditionally love. By the same time, they’re not going to be, God forbid, or when Oh, it’s whenever it’s time, whatever and me like they’re not gonna be part of your life. So you got to always it’s cycle. It’s like it’s pretty much like you grow up, have a nice little family have found us some story. Now again, you know people have issues with their own family but in that family regardless, but you have people around you and people come come into your life and they go away. So it was like you know, in and out and it’s part of life that we live our life and you can’t really depend on a lot of certain people for the rest of your life or your whole entire life. You got to learn how to grow, how to, to mature, you know, learn what to do, like say young because sooner or later, you know, if you want to have your own family or you want to mentor other people or you want to grow up, do something thing in your life that requires you know to inspire the next generation or it will require you to teach something you want to you know learn we have those principles those foundations and just apply to to yourself and then hopefully to a next generation comes you know, what does a cycle inside like to Judah until you have enough money to put in the queue the Circle Of Life.

Zeke: I don’t think we have enough money for that yet.

Matt: We don’t have the copyright,

Zeke: This is gonna kill it, like hey, how’s it going?

Matt: Choose music? Put on your Spotify Apple Music See? I’m ready. Yeah,

Zeke: We’re looking for interns, need money for producer interns.

Matt: Yeah, you might not get paid the first year or something. But once we get sponsored, then you’d get paid. Oh, yeah. Hit the like button, that subscribe button. But uh, yeah, I’m really excited. It’s for me for me personally. You know, I’m grateful to have a loving family a supportive family. And I mean, I know growing up, you see those Latino memes on Instagram or Twitter, like

Zeke: That’s my life. I still have PTSD from my mom helping me with homework. I’m just like, ah,

Matt: I remember. I used to have bet like, the best handwriting ever. I have straight neat nothing. I’m a lefty. So you need to struggle with. Yeah. So I remember ours if there’s not one word I don’t understand. Or I was like, misspelled notebook. We keep that word 20 million times single page. You somewhere at I don’t know around the same random ran, ran, ran, ran ran. It’s a it’s a huge problem like doing project projects or whatever. Literally getting flashbacks.

Zeke: He’s like, Oh, no.

Matt: They literally  Come back. But I’m pretty much saying oh yeah, like say repeating my handwriting make sure it’s straight no messy things.

Zeke: Go coming back like oh no, no. Mom starts throwing things at me like ahh.

Matt: Things around me.

Zeke: To this day to this day to the day.

Matt: To the day, the hour. But yeah I said.

Zeke: When they yell at you they can they yell louder not understanding me, Let me yell the same way louder.

Matt: The struggle is real. I mean, I’m saying and I see kids now Well, it’s it’s crazy how much the man applies to you as like as like as a child because I remember seeing it on the train or something. There was a kid acting out like a little kid. I think it was saying 10 11 being very disrespectful, disrespectful to their parents. I was like two seconds away from From you know.

Zeke: (inaudible) this time

Matt: Deadass way if I was a parent I mean I’m like I might not be that harsh or something I’ll definitely be strict and disciplined my kids cuz they know what i mean cuz you see kids I’m not saying maybe the parent do this with them or aren’t strict on them I don’t know it’s your life. I’m not judging all that but I am judging How are you gonna let your kid act like that in front of you or towards you too late they’re your kid they respect you and they’ve got to do some sort of discipline do it cuz it’s it’s ridiculous you let these kids I mean I’m not saying you’re it’s just bad kids but like spoil that situation. spoil kids as well. Like this boy kids are like very like you talking to me like that or to your parents like whoa, my mom my mom found out my dad found out. Yeah like its ridiculous you know, it’s it’s like cuz like they’re they’re the next generation Nick they’re the ones that grow up and they’re gonna be coming after you in terms of you know the next cycle next generation so you weren’t have that good character in them because this role this world definitely needs more better people better character but better judgment to wise so you want to search for us teaching the next generation teaching them from young me motor person be gentlemen and ladies all that respecting one another so you know definitely like say that many life lessons say from being a yoga mom or dad or getting on with the chocolate being thrown at me. I mean like it’s made me a better person in terms of you know, character wise and I mean you can’t complain Really like that I came from actually from school, my high school cuz my little brother left his homework at our house, I went to drop it off and then I’ll go to the office and there was a mom talking with a counselor and she was like, distressed, she was old. All she was upset. She was saying I was overhearing a little bit. She was saying, hey, my kid always tell my kid when he gets back home, does he have homework? He always say, No, I’m not. He’s very rebellious. He doesn’t listen to me or anything. And and console is great. Like, yeah, you know, they always give 10 homework every single day and this is why he failed last night. So why not? Hell again, as the mother was like, I don’t know what to do. And I feel bad because you know, she is your mom. She is you know, who was helping her out she wants to do good and you just treat her like that. Hey, I don’t know. For me personally, I don’t know what his life is. I don’t know what challenges or what’s going on. Through I can’t, but just seeing that moment right there is kind of like a kind of, kind of kind of sad to at sametime. So, this roads up perfectly Yeah, I have some mixup. My family isn’t perfect. I think no one’s family is perfect we all have our own demons Yeah, we all have our own struggles you all have that black sheep in your family or something. So like sounds but if you have the mom to least help each other, make them better person then great but if you have family members or someone you know really are just not good at all. Then you always want them to you know, always get the help you need but there’s sometimes you know, you had to cut ties the other people fall Yeah, let people flow and let them rise up again. But unfortunately, it’s gonna be a little bit too late. And then you’re gonna feel the consequences afterwards long term, short or long term. So it’s really comes down obviously from information of, you know, understanding on learning what your family been through learn being grateful what they’re doing I hate your parents might not be good. They might hay you could be a single child might have siblings or you might not have no parents at all. Or you might only have one of them. So I said, everyone’s situation is different. And same for my smart back my story. I can’t talk for behalf for everyone. But like said it, so it’s it’s nice to understand the struggles seeing what they’ve been through, and how they apply to you nowadays, like, hey, what was it? Rough back then? My mom was telling me how she used to be lefty too and then like, schools like slap them. That’s a good thing. She had me 30 years later in the states and states. And it’s fine. Thanks hands. Anyway. Yes. Hey, yes, sponsored by Hand modeling 50% off for nail polish link in the bio. I got pretty much here. And now going back to immigration and it’s you go back and see what could happen. I go so I had this conversation with my my dad is saying how my uncle was visiting us right now he is not from Holland to Spain 20 years now to that whole time kind of migrated out, call me and said my grandparents so but um I was saying that back then he could have easily instead of going to Spain, he could have easily come to the United States and and instead of Mike, my cousin were born more German cousin we were in Colombia, and they could have been born here or they could have been born in Spain to really put in. There’s a lot of what if’s a lot of what if’s?  That is life, I think and that’s one thing. I was thinking the other day, like, what if this would have happened? Or I mean this decision or my family did chose this over that? Who knows? Yeah, right now like so we all live in the present right now to take advantage what we have right now. And just go forward because like I said, your past what makes you who you are. Your situation right now is what will define you later on in the future. So, this is what I usually look like in college. I you can make some dumb mistakes in college, or something happens you can realize the mistakes you made and you can go back Ah, I regret doing this and that Yeah, yeah. Hey, you’re you’re no one’s telling what to do in life. No one’s really dictating what to do. It’s your life your own version of Sims, I would say but real life and you got to go out there and, and face whatever demons you have or struggles you have or what  dreams you have and pursuit. I’m saying are like our parents have they have a lot of dreams, and we were the main focus of their dreams.

Zeke: Not too young to square up let’s go kid Who fault is that? Their fault?

Matt:  Why are you saying that for?

Zeke: That’s more like a joke like I’ve seen a joke with like a parent who like my parents gave birth to me bla bla bla bla permission. And then it was like now I gotta get a job take care of my mental health pay bills.

Matt: I mean, if we talking I start talking about that, you realize that ah, the process of actual reproduction, how just one atom alienvault sperms it to the egg .

Zeke: And I had to win that race.

Matt: Well, yeah, what Well, yeah, won that race. Hey you realized that if we didn’t win that race then we don’t become who we are right now. So

Zeke: Stressed out and broke.

Matt: I don’t know. Could have been a whole different zeke bro, all different person being a female could have been someone else

Zeke: Could have been rich

Matt: I mean risk if you believe in reincarnation, you could come back and no life. Everyone having done a world to live.

Zeke: It’s been a fire, either world war three.

Matt: First of all, it’s like 50 degrees some of you grew and now it’s finally calling generally was like 50, 70 on New Year’s Day like,

Zeke: Yeah they was like, somebody was like, um, winter came on color people time We about 54 minutes in.

Matt: We could talk more or unless Have you got caught up? Cuz I’m gonna meet up with my girlfriend right before I leave my final goodbyes like, I’ll be back.

Zeke: This is episode eight.

Matt: Do you want to talk about our Oh no. We’re gonna do another part extend something else you could do you make the one episode with different people, clubs or everyone around the topic never seen like the episode like you know the Finebros like the reaction videos you have clips of people react and same thing that you got them question and then people can react to it. I was like what I call right you can’t use your action assuming you be copying other people using like oh, portion of the day. And most people reaction and see how they respond and then make that as in that one episode will be your your- I’m really happy for him though. I really happy I’ll say as good though. I feel like um, well, I mean I’ve seen really, for me personally I say for like a athlete or like certain player to be great. They have to be in the right situation. Yeah, and the right supporting casts right coach’s. It’s a really goes. I mean him being on the rockets are in the thunders didn’t workout suiting is playing is playing side a lot of ISO mid range. And then a lot of the analytical things nowadays sports. I mean, I get why Houston for me I felt like they just abandon ship quickly when they do release him back in that first month of season. But um, yeah, I mean, look, they didn’t really mesh well.

Zeke: Unpaid interns. But when it blows up, we’ll be there. Like yerrr we made it. Ain’t going to know no nobody acts super different. Like new phone who this, new life who knows? oh eight six or seven greatest in the world greatest in the world. So yeah, how do you feel about Carmelo?  Yeah,

Matt: But I feel like because of that people were did judge him. I mean, he better than a lot of players in the NBA. Yeah, a lot of player and I know it’s his ego you know, wants to be a starter, I’m saying that. But like, so he asked me find the right place. And I seen trailblazers. I mean, I’ll say he really, really came alive, though. I mean, not like prime mela, but he is that he he so putting up numbers. He’s still been, you know, join a dedication to the game and it’s great to see him coming back. grinchy era I’m I’m happy for him though cuz he did have a lot of laughter than saying left but like depends on where you playing the situation around us like football too.  You can see QB’s or whatever if you’re not you do have a bad coach are bad players or offensive linemen around you you’re gonna fail if you’re really set up to fail.

Zeke: Yeah, Yeah,

Matt: I feel like that’s why a lot of number one picks I mean, they say that if you’re in a number one pick, you have to make the team better but you’re still young so learning but if you’re not putting that system around you know growth there augment supported cash that you are set up to fail.

Zeke: Yeah.

Matt: And for example I’m trying to think of for example, a Jared Goff number one pick in early 2016 or 2015 on Wi Fi six he literally he had Derek Fisher which is most who has the most losses in NFL history and he went bad it was bad and people calling the bust well like you’d have a bad coach not a good team around them then how you think it’s gonna succeed when he’s still learning the game in college shoe. And then yeah, and then once he brought in the next coach, you got to think like a younger coach for more you know, he’s brief clear way better. They literally mean a Super Bowl run and they turn him to like MVP MVP caliber player and like I said it really comes out there. And also thing like another example Zion Williamson yeah me new york recruter where it was based on the old like, pics, they would have gotten him for the wrong thing,

Zeke: But it would have nothing.

Matt: And he’s come back from injuries could have played this year doesn’t just come out. He’d be back. But I feel like if he went to next I would think they were Russian or something. I feel like you were you would not have been because, I mean, who knows? Maybe I’m wrong by tab that sends the next  People doubt him too. But he, he is definitely going to be

Zeke: My man Luka about to be the future. Particularly the second co-star maybe nice.

Matt: Well, if Porziņģis steps up I know Porziņģis come from the injury and all that.

Zeke: Yeah. Yeah.

Matt: Shows us, you know, say if he puts in like Trae Young

Zeke: Trae Young he’s nice but he does nothing

Matt: He has nothing exactly i mean that’s a situation where[inaudible] like he yeah he have nothing and I mean kid is putting up like 40 40 shots already I mean not 40 40 points and he likes it give me setting the next few years because you know Lebron sooner or later he’s gonna retire retire a lot of emerging stars already like Giannis he still younger he’s like 26

Zeke: When he starts making consistent shots it’s over.

Matt: I think it’s been over. Kawhi Leonard, he still playing for a few years more doors a little bit? Yeah.

Zeke: AD.

Matt: Large stars so yeah, like so. It really it comes down to.

Zeke: Curry and Klay aren’t old they in their early 30s.

Matt: Well, well. I mean, they both are both are in the Let’s say both both are going to be fresh and healthy.

Zeke: Warriors come back next season.

Matt: It’s gonna be interesting though it’s gonna be interesting I mean this year like I said, obviously I know I’ll say I’m a Lebron to get a chip gift for because he clearly is the best player through the whole lot of course do you know Jordan or LeBron who’s the goat?

Zeke: Say Say Lebron.

Matt: You say Lebron I want to say Lebron but I have to give it to…

Zeke:  Every reason no body else won in the 90s but Jordan and Hakeem.

Matt:: But he won cuz.

Zeke: He came back halfway through.

Matt: He is what he was a college champ dominated too

Zeke: But oh no, this isn’t a good thing that every time Lebron leaves a team, the team destroys itself?

Matt: Bron has the numbers. That’s why it’s better points assists rebounding. But I think Jordan just got better awards like probably more MVP Defensive Player of the Year for a symbol that all stars

Zeke: Feel that Lebron can do a lot more than Jordan.

Matt: Yeah, if he had more chips in him, he had more if he has six championships or more that I’ll see I give it to Lebron.

Zeke: But chips aren’t everything Bill Russell has 11 and nobody says he’s the goat.

Matt: That is true or that is true, because his that is true 100% true. I mean, he has the most amount of chips right Bill Russell?

Zeke: He has 11 he doesn’t have enough fingers for his chips

Matt: Yeah.I will say.

 v

Zeke: And then you have a somewhat like Wilt Chamberlain everybody says he’s nice, but he has like two three.

Matt: Can am Michael Jordan team not Michael Jordan.

Zeke: Kareem and Magic Johnson.

Matt: They came in and they had a nice um uh that a good couple eight years against the Celtics play Larry Bird.

Zeke: This said Michael wasn’t Magic until,

Matt: I Michael like literally the 80s were ma Magic Magic and Bird those were the 80’s and then 90’s was Jordan and then 2000’s and 2000’s we’re good though Kobe the Spurs Celtics Shaq and then barely the Laker yeah.

Zeke: And then he won one with the Heat.

Matt: that Heat early on and then the Warriors game on I still remember that 2015 2014 2015 the Warriors team. Now is this the start of something start something.

Zeke: From nothing I think as an Lebron retires he’s going to get more of the credit.

Matt: Yeah, yeah. Yeah I mean stats wise he’s gonna he’s better I say he will break the all time career points Why is it that submits his legacy to right thing it’s just skill wise and everything we all know he’s the best player.

Zeke: And they never say Kareem is the best player six.

Matt: Yeah but.

Zeke: Oh Kareem well Kareem. He has six rings also they never say he’s the best player.

Matt: That’s true I say we base off skills wise skills wise and all of that. I just have give it to Jordan a little bit of disrespect even I’ll say after you finish his career then yet and also they played different times and all that but..

Zeke: But Lebron playing against zone now. Compared to-

Matt: You got the three ball all that So I remember the time during early 2000’s Jordan LeBron was easy’s go just bully himself way to the, to the basket.

Zeke: And now with zone, you can’t do that. But

Matt: Hey, times have changed the like the game changed so you have to change your game. And now, baseball there’s a lot of players that don’t change their game or some way the way they hit. They like said you can easily replace plus that’s the cruelty of sports that you get easily, easily replaced. I have seen some highlights on Instagram. I see some players like tigers are like, Oh, he still in the league and I look up like here’s like I look it up and like, excuse me, like, I’ll he’s still in the league free agent for like four years or something.

Zeke: Mm hmm.

Matt: So, yeah, it’s like that a lot when you flex and then every year there’s always some new players that are younger, fresher, better, contract wise. That’s the NFL I wish I think that’s the problem with that team we have to arm against those who have

Zeke: NFL has its own problem.

Matt: NFL has its own problems. First thing I’ll say no guarantee contracts and that’s where that’s where, have been reading. They were like getting I mean sorry I got distracted on the like players are paying over 100 million but the only value guarantee 50 million which is really I mean NBA, full guarantee contracts with the Major League Baseball. They have no salary cap so they can literally pay them over what they really did. 40 million with the Yankees with paid um Jericho if I’m not getting the name wrong

Zeke: LaMelo about to be crazy to.

Matt: Remember I was seeing yes High School like like the hype around him in the ball

Zeke: When him and Zion pitting against each other

Matt: Was the tour. Yeah. The family business as I remember where we were trying to get sneakers like $600 sneakers

Zeke: I was like I don’t have it.

Matt: Well as a brand called Big Baller Brand, you have Big Baller Brand. But Like I said your becoming..,

Zeke: As a distraction because they just had a random thought, there’s a 5 year old who got a scholarship playing drums.

Matt: Right? There’s crossover being everything means, this No, yeah, because you don’t think you start paying well, that five years old. He could play for next four years and you’d be you’d be like master.

Zeke: The kid have a scholarship for 2032.

Matt: You always want the next big thing. That’s big.

Zeke: Television came along let me say before I forget.

Matt: I after my thoughts because NFL, like said they really have to fix those contracts I mean that’s really that’s definition of dum because you really and NFL careers are so short you are talking to braces sometimes yeah their career only lasts like two three years like if you’re getting like a cornerback or door kicker right over your kicker a cabbage offer 20 years of

Zeke: All you have to do is kick and don’t miss.

Matt: Yeah if you missed you still get cut because there’s so many people playing football that I like alright next men up come up on the scene. Now like that a household name or something or very good then they’re not gonna get paid or something. And you see the side effects with CP and all that That’s crazy. Therefore your whole body of future just for two years of football and you gave casca and a lot of cry a lot of athletes provide sorry if these are retiring early like Luke, Luke going Kidney. We win so count liner, Carolina Panthers. Oh, he retired this week. [inaudible], Gronkowski. Oh yeah, a lot of these stars start early because their bodies and all that which is understandable. You know like something more fun to like. For the players. I would say. If you have kids, play golf.

Zeke: You can play golf until like a 90.

Matt:  Yeah, I was I saw do watch golf too. And I remember when I was watching the Masters when Tiger Woods won last year. I find it intriguing because I usually because I play Wii Sports. Yeah, that shit looks easier than it is, it’s hard. I watch golf in and they do get paid a lot of money so if I had kids later on the future I’ll be.

Zeke: Be the best golf coach ever.

Matt: I’d make sure try and try make sure they try all sports and then if their good at one sport then I

Zeke: Could test for a better case.

Matt: Listen to the chances of being a professional sport after the like 1% not even less than 1% is omega three like a superstar. But yeah, hard work dedication.

Zeke: They said the greatest tennis coach never played tennis. Serena a Venus, Serena dad.

Matt: Oh, yeah. The William Sisters came from Compton, California they they got enough They came up and hey, shout out to the William Sisters.

Zeke: They were like let’s go win everything.

Matt: Now they are they are so Lina is almost gonna gonna win she almost going to breat the most amount of course, not grand slam major wins over wins. Oh, yeah, those are the two that Okay, good. Their dad is also their dad theres one video that I posted, what was their dad name again?

Zeke: Who the dad? I don’t know.

Matt: Yeah,I guess Richard Williams. But I saw a clip saying how they were they were getting popular at like, 13 14 and like news station. Were interviewing them doing Venus William. Yeah. And one question like, I know you’re getting all that you’re saying you’re good, but why do you think you’re good? Why are you thinking good? And she didn’t just smiled all that on, you know, she’s young and all that, but she didn’t know what to say. And she was like, why? 15 You’re good. Why? What do you have? It gives away like saying like, like, what makes you that it was a way that the question was more like,

Zeke: What makes you special?

Matt: Yeah, what makes you special? Like why are you like? What’s he have like, men and knees and then after that, like the dad of her dad came in like sobbing to be like why are you telling her that and now she’s still young you think she I think he was pretty much protecting herself from like, I say that self doubt or like, you know, like her overthinking what she has, and it makes her special. I mean, they’re so young and then I know there’s kids her age center wise or you know, their parents always harder on them. Yeah. And they’ll say you got to do this you got to do this, you know, and they and they’ll be mentally mostly be mentally drained out.And once you mentally drained out. It’s over. Yeah. And it’s I like to clip how she was telling the guy like, do some this interview is over or kind of You she’s so young why you asking all of  these questions because I see his point of view of saying, hey, you’re going to create that doubt in her she will kind of oh I’m special then it’s like the mental health. You always had to check on the mental health. That was always real. And then the length that he went to create two world world champs. Say like five more minutes.

Zeke: I was going to ask you to name your origin story but I think Im gong to wait until we all come together again. If that ever happens,

Matt: I think it will, I mean, at some point of winter, and we’ll come back and fall

Zeke: Yeah.

Matt: We’ll be back.

Zeke: I mean, who I mean, you and Kat, I might still be here. Then Farez is he is he gonna be here?

Matt: Brought up sorry.

Zeke: The train?

Matt: Yeah closes at 7 I mean

Zeke: Anything ah you wanting to plug in on the?

Matt: So I thank you for having me your time out on your day off. I appreciate well I mean I know you put in a lot of work for this was this nice to share your own story.

Zeke: Yeah.

Matt: Just you know explaining your thoughts and reasons. So say thanks for having me here today. Yeah like sir joy

Zeke: Because the part 2 of episode one come sometime.

Matt: Enjoy life yeah how do we have I mean if you have though dreams go after their dreams Really? And like said before like it’s like then you’re gonna have your ups and downs I guarantee it’s guaranteed to have ups and downs yeah you can draw on them and then like don’t go anywhere so look always look back from the past, learn from that experience and just keep moving forward because if you’re gonna stay behind, don’t do anything not improve yourself or look at new options will you fit me I’m saying people might not feel down in any other ways to go. But there are people that’s always there for you. There are people that are ready to help you out. Then there are people that will take you down regardless so you might be you know, not doing anything and be well our our our hope will be hating or find ways to take down the bad You got to annotate them motivation, take the experience and move forward. Because in the end the day it’s your life yeah. And nobody’s telling you how to live no one’s making your own decisions. You play out the way you want to make life play out. Because the only thing I’ll say is don’t have regrets. If you say I’m Brett said, you know, you know, then you’re never gonna be satisfied. Whatever you’ve done. Yeah. Oh, that’s one thing I’d say never have regrets. breadstick. It’s just going to creep into your mind and messy rock. So, for me personally, most I look back I wish I’d done something here there but I don’t don’t dwell, dwell dwell on them because you know, because they happen to happen. We’re not like in the matrix. Yeah. Or now like in sins or whatever. We can we do our lives she’s gonna keep your forward, thankful lab and don’t do the same thing. If somebody comes up something similar like hey, You know, I was in that same situation for I’m not making the same mistake. important people do make this mistake. I said she’s got to keep moving forward.

Zeke: All right, thank you. Thank heavens sharing your time sharing stories. See when you come back to Spain,

Matt: That would be the travel travel episode.

Zeke: All right. Let’s.

Matt: Subscribe everything in the bottom.

Zeke: That brings Episode 8.2 to a close. Again, you listen to Episode 8.1 A Real Life Sports Movie to get a full context of the episode. And next week, I have my friend Esteban to talk about being a college student  and traveling around the world. I hope you continue to have a nice day and hope to see you there.
